Color Recognition: Coloring in activities encourages colour awareness. Using different colours gives children an opportunity to explore different combinations and lets them see how they can change the appearance of the picture. It is great also for gaining awareness of the lesser known colours

Which brings me to my next point. Most children color with crayons, and crayons are waxy and make uneven lines, as opposed to color pencils, if you get what I mean. Coloring with a color pencil? You get practically the same thing that you get with a lead pencil. Coloring with crayons? You get stuff like: “oh crap, I totally miscalculated that stroke. I meant to color outside the eye but because my crayon is so huge, I colored inside it”. Minor mistakes, really, but it gets worse if you use crappy crayons. Cough cough Roseart and crayons that the dentist gives you..
